To be brief, motion photography is about showing movement. Adding a slight blur of the action to your shot helps tell a story. This storytelling element makes the images a little less static and unexpected. Another reason why showing movement stands out is because it sets the mood.

Put camera settings together for the best light trail image. Shooting on a higher ISO with longer shutter speeds and wider aperture settings will let enough light pass through your lens to create a visible light trail. Start with ISO 800, a shutter speed of five seconds or longer, and an f/8 aperture.

If you are photographing a marathon, or people running, and you want to capture the person in sharp focus, then begin with a shutter speed of 1/ 250 sec and adjust from there. To blur a running person start with 1/60th of a second. Use similar camera settings when photographing children on the move.

Again, the speed of the moving object will determine how slow the shutter speed needs to be. A shutter speed of 1/30 sec works well for bicycles, whereas shutter speeds between 1/60 sec and 1/125 sec work well for cars and motorcycles. If you want to blur a waterfall, a relatively long exposure of 3-5 seconds is best.
